I dare you! book tag (+ favorite blogs ever)

I was tagged by Kay @Hammock of Books and this was so much fun?????? One of my top ten tags of all time for sure 😉

Rules:

  • friends don’t lie.
  • you must answer all the questions
  • you must tag 4 people

1. What book has been on your shelf the longest?

“The Princess and The Goblin” by George MacDonald + “The Sisters Grimm Fairy-Tale Detectives” by Michael Buckley. I can’t remember which is THE oldest, but these are the only chapter books I still have from my childhood (my “Wizard of Oz” copy was lost in a move????) *sadness*

These two are still amazing and were ALL mine. I vividly remember loving Curdie so much, and being surprised I liked “Princess and the Goblin” because I only picked it out for the necklace that came with it. *ain’t NO excuse not to look good while reading* /back when I made an effort/

AND THE SISTERS GRIMM FAIRY-TALE DETECTIVES???? This was my ultimate book as a child, my copy has been through so much and is so damaged from being left outside IN THE RAIN. it has no business being pictured. I was about Sabrina’s age and my sister was Daphne’s, Puck was my favorite, it was the best thing since my Nintendo GameCube ❤ HARVEST MOON AND ANIMAL CROSSING GUYS?????? ❤

phyllis still upsets me.

2. What is your current read, your last read, and the book you’ll read next?

crows.PNG

Currently reading: “Carry On” by Rainbow Rowell (plus two others but this is the one I’ve been paying the most attention to. “i’m sorry David Copperfield” is my life motto at this point)

Last read: “Dante and Aristotle Discover the Secrets of the Universe” by Benjamin Alire Sáenz *dreamy sigh*

Next: I want to try “The Raven Cycle” series by Maggie Stiefvater??

3. What book did everyone like but you hated?

“When Dimple Met Rishi” by Sandhya Menon. Dnf and I was disappointed because it would have been my first fiction on Indian/American culture????? there just wasn’t enough to make me invest in the plot..

4. What book do you keep telling yourself you’ll read, but you probably wont?

ggvv.PNG

“Lord of the Rings” (same as Kay). If I could just get past the beginning it might pick up, but I’ll probably never get past the LONG confusing fantasy neighborhood gossip. *sadness again*

5. What book are you saving for your retirement?

“As I Lay Dying” by William Faulkner

6. Last page: Read it first or wait till the end?

i’m scandalized????? WHO WOULD DO SOMETHING AS TERRIBLE AS THAT?????

cropped-capture11

7. Acknowledgement: waste of paper and ink, or interesting aside?

CONFESSION: I always read the acknowledgement because I feel I’m prying through someone’s personal affairs without them ever knowing.

8. Which book character would you switch places with?

Dante from “Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe” by Benjamin Alire Sáenz. I would miss being a girl so much, but Dante has loving supportive parents, he’s set up for college, and he has ARI????? Sadly he has to deal with homophobia (I’M SO DONE????) BUT he has Ari???? PLACE ARI DIRECTLY WITH ME.

9. Do you have a book that reminds you of something specific in your life? (Place, time, person?)

goodreads.PNG

“The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” by L. Frank Baum reminds me of growing up in the 2000s, with silly bands, High School Musical, we never wore shirts til we were about five, bicycles, drake and josh, THE CLASSIC, QUALITY DISNEY CHANNEL (it’s the future I can see and it sucks because Disney tv used to be so much better)??????

10. Name a book that you acquired in an interesting way.

2018 challenge

“Rumble Fish” by SE Hinton

Do you know those neighborhood book boxes where you can take a book from the plastic box, then return it or put another in it’s place??? This was in one of those and IT’S SO GOOD!!!!! I love it so much, it’s that secret SE Hinton book nobody knows about but it’s as good as Outsiders ❤ ❤ ❤

11. Have you ever given a book away for a special reason to a special person?

“Letters of a Nation: A Collection of Extraordinary American Letters”, edited by Andrew Carrol

It’s a book full of letters from American forefathers (and other famous Americans), who were wonderfully sassy. You know it’s about to get intense when a letters starts with “Dear sirs.”

I gave this one to my favorite librarian, who is 85 years old and so lovely ❤

12. Which book has been with you most the places?

ggvv.PNG

“The Time Machine” by HG Wells and I went together down the east coast

13. Any “required reading” that you hated in high school that wasn’t so bad two years later?

“Hamlet” by Shakespeare. It was so difficult to understand as a high school sophomore??? Now that I’m majoring in English I’m used to the Shakespearean writing style, so it’s a piece of cake hides away no fear shakespeare

14. used or brand new?

used for sure, it’s exactly the same book but gloriously cheaper

15. Have you ever read a Dan Brown book?

no

16. Have you ever seen a movie that you liked more than the book?

not yet but I proudly love film/TV so it’s entirely possible

17. Have you ever read a book that made you hungry, cookbooks included?

brooke-lark-96787-unsplash.jpg

I’m reading “Carry On” by Rainbow Rowell and Simon described Sour Cherry Scones and I nearly swallowed the entire page. So many delicious food descriptions in this book?? Simon loves food like I do so I adored him immediately ❤

18. Who is a person who’s book advice you’ll always take?

my sister’s ❤ ❤ we have EXACTLY the same judgement with books. Besides Sarah J Maas, she loves her but I can’t get over the writing style

***side note, she needs to read “Ladders to Fire” by Anais Nin, I only have so much patience and it’s perfectly acceptable to hit  siblings.

19. Is there a book outside of your comfort zone that you ended up loving?

this is shocking and alarming, but ~Harry Potter~ was definitely out of my comfort zone. I didn’t read it as a child and then I thought i was too old for middle grade (I’m a better person now), and it’s so ridiculous to not read middle grade????? Now i’m happily a diehard Slytherpuff.

What is your Hogwarts house??? How much do you miss the old Disney Channel? With their wands, and they’d make the Mickey Mouse head outline and say, “hi I’m Hannah Montana, and you’re watching Disney Channel????”

OMG! I love reading the acknoledgements page as well. Sometimes, I feel like I’m the writer’s best friend, they mention John, Susy and Ron and I feel like they were there for me all along (?)
Also, a small confession, when reading a physical book I might some times read the very last word of the book before I get started. Just the one word, and then I’m all the time thinking, how the hell did she manage to finish a book with “insert-weird-word”!
    I need help!

Definitely try The Raven Boys series! I’ve only read the first two but I love it so much. I don’t know my Hogwarts house because I’ve never read or seen it. I really miss the old Disney Channel. I personally believe the last good show was Good Luck Charlie. Thank you for the tag!

Fun tag! I LOVE Dante and Ari, and I need that sequel like now. I also really need to read Carry On. I got it literally the day it came out. LOL I’m so bad with reading books I buy right away, but I’m working on it!! Ooh I’m a Slytherpuff too. I basically say I’m a Slytherin because the first Pottermore gave that to me, but second Pottermore was Hufflepuff.

I hope you enjoy The Raven Cycle series, I love those books so much! Coincidentally, I’m currently in the process of trying to reread the first three books so I can refresh my memory before the fourth book haha.
