Top Five Tuesday @ Bionic Book Worm!!! and I’m so prepared for this week’s topic. I need this after the emotional wreckage that was the weekend.
As I’m writing this I just finished “Carry On” by Rainbow Rowell and I am sensitive to sunlight and noise. That book has done things to me emotionally that I’m not at all ready to talk about.
a review is certainly in the future but I need a distraction like TFT because I keep thinking about certain scenes from the book, and my characters, and wanting more, and forgetting to drink water so I’m dehydrated and physically can’t cry, and books are a substance affecting mood and behavior.
AND RAINBOW ROWELL MADE THIS COMMENT EVER CASUALLY, AND I CANNOT COPE:
and then on Sunday, I thought, you know what??? WHY NOT READ “THEY BOTH DIE AT THE END” BY ADAM SILVERA???? Because the only way to semi-recover (because no book recovery is permanent) from a book is to read another one that can potentially destroy you even more.
I read the entire thing.
SILVERA WROTE A RUINOUS TRAGEDY. I was so wretchedly hopeful the entire time even though I knew what was coming and THEN???? and the way Death-Cast symbolizes reality??? DEATH IS SUPPOSED TO BE ABSTRACT, ADAM. now how can I continue ignoring own mortality???
there are legitimate tears in my miserable eyes.
i think I should take a break from reading. for 48 hours. I recognize that I’m danger of nervous collapse.
!!!!but without further adieu!!!
(I cannot even make a “carry on” pun, that’s how destroyed I am right now.)
My Top Five Bookish Pet Peeves
there is nothing more toxic than an unexpected spoiler. but tragically sometimes I get lost in my dreamy fangirl condition and reveal too much about characters/plot?????? and I realize, only after it’s too late, what I’ve done. in those low moments I deserve to step in water while wearing socks.
don’t say I don’t deserve it you know I do
2. when fans turn against one another because of ship wars. etc.
this is more than irritating, IT’S HEARTBREAKING. You know how intensely I fangirl, but I would never put someone down for interpreting the book differently???? Honestly I first noticed this in the Supernatural tv (my very soul) fandom and things can get intense when people talk about which relationship is toxic, etc. HEARTBREAKING. We should honor one another, not sabotage???
3. when a book starts out amazing but slowly becomes horrible.
“Scaramouche” by Rafael Sabatini. We start out with two BEST FRIENDS, one is killed, Andre is devastated *one of the best death/ immediate grief scenes of all time.*
then Andre decides to pursue his acting dreams and only kind of remembers his BEST FRIEND EVER. because revenge is a side goal.
dnf. I don’t like all this “moving on” business.
4. when someone reads over my shoulder
can I help you?
5. when I finish a book and nothing will ever be as good as this book
Tell me Isaac from Teen Wolf is not Simon Snow. You cannot.
“Death-Cast feel free to call me at any time.”
What drives you crazy about reading??? What book have you not recovered from??
