Top 5 books I DIDN’t like that others LOVED

I’m finally back for Top Ten Tuesday from bionic bookworm, and I’ve been missing it for ages.

I’ve been busy  reading fanfiction  with serious college stuff.

Sadly my homecoming happens to be the post in which I’m exiled from the world???? and I’ll be sent to the actual moon????? because everyone is going to passionately hate me.

I’M ONLY SLIGHTLY UNPLEASANT PLEASE LOVE ME

Books I didn’t like that others loved

1. “Turtles All the Way Down” by John Green / john green always makes me feel disillusioned and underwhelmed.

2. “Eliza and Her Monsters” by Francesca Zappia / I liked the premise, the idea of online anonymity and being in love with fiction, but the slow plot and dry characters made me want to go ask for john green’s forgiveness.

3. “Daughter of Smoke and Bone” by Laini Taylor / This book is not special and I’m ignoring it forever.

4. “The Wrath and the Dawn” by Renée Ahdieh / I don’t know, maybe I just wasn’t ready for this book??? I read it very soon after “The Foxhole Court,” i.e the book of dreams and love and happiness.

5. “Fangirl” by Rainbow Rowell / You don’t understand how much I wanted to love this, I ADORE SIMON AND BAZ????? I just couldn’t get into the story and I was so disappointed with life.

I thought I was the only one who didn’t love Fangirl… I gave it 4 stars, but I think if I went back in time it would have been 3.5 stars. At the time, I didn’t use half star ratings, but I was between 3 and 4. I think I just liked that it was set in college and Cath had social anxiety…. but I remember it was so dragged out.

I was also not into Fangirl. Sadly, I wasn’t even into the fanfic part and ended up skipping over a lot of it because I thought it was poorly written, so even that didn’t save it for me. I just found Cath so annoying and sheltered and thought it was such a letdown after Eleanor & Park. Honestly it’s made me wary of reading more books by her because I’m afraid of being disappointed again :((

yeah, I’ve heard a lot of people liked Carry On better than the fanfic in Fangirl, which is interesting. I’m still too scared to try it and I disliked Fangirl so much I’m a little iffy about trying anything associated with it. Alas.

Hahaha I’m totally on your wavelength about Daughter of Smoke and Bone. I thought the world-building and writing was incredibly gorgeous at the beginning of the book, but the romance aspect really shattered my expectations for the series. Although on the other hand, I really did enjoy Fangirl – it was just so CUTE, 😉 though I understand not everyone will relate to those kinds of books.

Awesome list!!! I’ve had suspicions about picking up most of these books, so I’m glad you corroborated them. ❤

MALANIE! How could you not like Eliza??? And Fangirl???? I am so crushed…
Daughter of Smoke and Bone was so meh. But Strange the Dreamer is REALLY GOOD. SO MUCH BETTER.
I’m currently reading Turtles All the Way Down and it’s going so slow. Maybe I’m trying to read TOO many books at once. (Did I just say that? What???) But I’m hoping it picks up and is better.

ADAMM. Personally Turtles All The Way Down might be my favourite book of John Green’s so far + I adored Eliza and her Monsters so much. I have yet to read DOSAb, but I’m starting it this month. I agreeThe Wrath and the dawn and Fangirl were only so so books for me.
