Books I Want to Read this Summer ft. a long shameless list

Flower Bouquet 1

Capture4 of 5

I’ve been seeing so many summer reading list posts, and I’m so excited for summer, there’s so much reading to do?? and I can just write things, and blog, and eat cookie dough, and be overly happy about everything.

I was going to make a v short sample of books that I picked up from the library, with minimal flowers, but I said screw that it’s time to commit to an entire list and everyone loves flowers and lists and happiness.

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han // I plan to buddy read this series with Liz and I’m so excited, just look at the adorable girl on the cover?????? I want to live in her bedroom, look at the pale colors. And there’s going to be a Netflix show LSKDJFLSKJ. I’m overwhelmed with joie de vivre helppppp

SOso CUTE.

a list of cages

What If It’s Us by Becky Albertalli and Adam Silvera // Technically this isn’t out until October and I’m devastated, but I’m so excited for Gay Literature at its finest. It’s Becky andΒ  Adam?????? and BECKYYY (still mad at Adam for making me cry but it’s okkk)

It’s about two boys and New York and the post office and Broadway and basically all things special

flower-bouquet-1.png

2 stars.PNG

Leah on the Offbeat by Becky Albertalli // I adored Simon vs the Homo Sapiens and I want more Simon + Blue and the chance to love best friend Leah. I just love this GORGEOUS COVER ARTTTT. I want Leah’s hair to be my hair. Also I hope she’s drinking frozen hot chocolate because she deserves the best.

flower-bouquet-1.png

2 stars.PNG

If You Come Softly by Jacqueline Woodson // The cover art oh god. I accept this completely. I’m so interested in reading an interracial couple, I haven’t read very many books with that dynamic and it’s a tragedy. admire these two soft beautiful angels

And it’s only 181 suspicious pages,, I forgot books could be that short?? I’m so used to 300+ pages.

flower-bouquet-1.png

We Are Okay by Nina LaCour /// I finally have a lesbian couple yessssssss????? It’s also in a college setting which makes my heart complete.

I actually didn’t even know what this was about and I looked up the synopsis just for this post (I was going to read this just because of the cover)) BUT the premise is so incredible and I’m euphoric.

flower-bouquet-1.png

2 stars.PNG

Running With Lions by Julian Winters /// LGBT and sports and angst and best friends what more can we want in a book?

MORE FRIENDSHIP ALWAYS

flower-bouquet-1.png

2 stars.PNG

Black Wings Beating by Alex London // I wanted this because 1) Mackenzi “BADASS” Lee and 2) Adam “i-love-him-I-forgive-him” Silvera both gave it five stars and now it’s required reading. LGBT + SIBLINGS + FANTASY FRIENDSSSSS.

++ The Raven Cycle Stiefvater vibes are strong. It’s sad we have to wait until September for its release, but thankfully it’s okay to be bitter and unpleasant until then.

flower-bouquet-1.png

2 stars.PNG

The Wicker King by K Acrum // Anna from Reading Peaches made me aware of this book (I just found her blog and already I want to offer my firstborn cat poorrr Thomas)

This book is about two best friends (i’m sold) named August and Jack, and Jack has hallucinations of an entire fantasy world and SWEET PRECIOUS DECENT August wants to help his friend come to reality.

But what if Jack is more sane than anyone? I feel like this is going to be both a creepy and fluffy book at the same time and we don’t deserve its goodness.

flower-bouquet-1.png

2 stars.PNG

Brightly Burning by Alexa Donne// “Jane Eyre in Space.” You can have all my money.

flower-bouquet-1.png

1 star

At the Edge of the Universe by Shaun David Hutchinson // We Are the Ants was horrible but I want to give Shaun another chance and try this.

I found it on a list of suggested reading at the end of “Autoboyography” and the premise aesthetic is gay Donnie Darko.

flower-bouquet-1.png

2 stars.PNG

And I Darken by Kiersten White // A brutal princess and her smol gentle little brother (this dynamic is so perfect) face political intrigue & passionate friendships & loyalty.

Hannah’s review made me realllllyyyyy want to read this because it contains her favorite characters ever and precious butterfly characters make me cry tears of love.

flower-bouquet-1.png

2 stars.PNG

If I Was Your Girl by Meredith Russo // BeccaΒ  recommended this an embarrassingly long time ago and I want to read it so much but for some reason I always forget to go out and seek it???? I’m an absolute loser that’s just what happens.

HOWEVER, I’m so ready for this book because the MC is transgender, the author is a transgender woman, and even the gorgeous girl on the cover is trans??????

Leaps and bounds and worthiness.

flower-bouquet-1.png

2 stars.PNG

Darius the Great is Not Okay by Adib Khorram // Malanie is also not okay because she’s looking at the cover art and her heart is wildly beating just look at the aesthetic city????? LOOK AT THOSE SPECIAL BOYS??? and the honestly faultless fonttt.

We just have a boy going on his first trip to Iran, dealing with clinical depression (which is so relatable and I feel loved) and an anemic social life (me).

In Iran he meets a best friend named Sohrab and I never want them to be separated ever.

I pledge my undying devotion to Darius the Great.

flower-bouquet-1.png

2 stars.PNG

On the Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta // A soft, found family, slow burn that won so many awards and look at the soft adorable flower on the cover that just wants to be accepted?

flower-bouquet-1.png

There Will be other summers.jpg

There Will be Other Summers by Benjamin Alire Saenz // Welllllll I have no idea when Benjamin will just be kind and do his duty as a human and release this book to Ari and Dante fans (I hope for a release date + cover reveal hourly daily.) I even overcame my complete laziness and made this shitty cover so I can stare at it and be comforted.

I’m featuring the book in quiet support for Benjamin because you never know, right??? he could just randomly release it tomorrow andddd

giphy

ARRRRIIII DANTTTEEEE

I won’t even pretend to be cool when it comes to Ari and Dante. Just give me Ari and Dante, Benjamin.

flower-bouquet-1.png

2 stars.PNG

Cannery Row by John Steinbeck // I have a complete and valid crush on all things written by John Steinbeck, he is lord.

Also I want to know what’s going on with those trippy frogs.

flower-bouquet-1.png

2 stars.PNG

The Princess Bride by William Goldman // “Now a TERRIFIC motion picture” I need a moment to collect myself because it really was terrific.

flower-bouquet-1.png

2 stars.PNG

Emergency Contact by Mary H.K Choi // TATTOOOSSS AND KAZ BREKKER HAIR. I’ve heart so many good things about this book, and about Mary H.K Choi and her infinite coolness, and texting romances are important to me as a human being ever since this Captive Prince fan fiction that I loved and it gave me life and I stayed up really late)

And it’s about college-aged MCs!! I just want to laugh and be romantic vicariously through them.

flower-bouquet-1.png

2 stars.PNG

Everything Leads to You by Nina LaCour // I already ship Emi and Ava just from hearing about their cute apartment and Hollywood film aesthetic.

I also want to physically transform into the cover font.

flower-bouquet-1.png

2 stars.PNG

Peter Pan by J.M Barrie // I can’t believe i haven’t read this because Peter Pan is my comfort character, whenever I’m completely useless I just think of him and his dreamy ultimatum and life is a magical thing to have again. Peter is so speciallll

flower-bouquet-1.png

2 stars

Relay by Layla Reyne // *gushes and cries and hugs randomly* GUYS NORA SAKAVIC RECOMMENDED THIS KJSDLF. I’m in love with “The Foxhole Court” *it’s my entire world* and I had no idea the author had a Goodreads?????

So I stalked, fulfilling my role as a fangirl puddle, and she gave this book 5 GOLDEN MIRACULOUS STARS. Nora it’s done I’m reading this I love you.

flower-bouquet-1.png

2 stars.PNG

Red Rising by Pierce Brown // I’m pretty sure the fan base for this series is HUGE but surprisingly no one has recommended it to me, so I’m going to independently and drastically just read it.

I don’t know if I’m going to be into the “longing for justice” trope but it’s getting an honorable try

flower-bouquet-1.png

1 star

A Darker Shade of Magic by Victoria Schwab // I finally got this from the library and it’s in my possession, summer is happening.

flower-bouquet-1.png

1 star

Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles // When I mentioned wanting to read this last week so many people said it was amazing??

Now I’m for sure going to appreciate this book, just look how adorable, I love them, I need buckets of tropes and cheesy-but-artistic romance.

flower-bouquet-1.png

1 star

Percy Jackson series Rick Riordan // I want to read this soon Ris, I already adore Percy and his demigod squad, and I’m going on a road trip to find my own demigod friends Gansey-style.

flower-bouquet-1.png

fhc

The Foxhole Court by Nora Sakavic // I’m physically incapable of not talking about this book in every single post. I tried and it was too horrible.

I want to buddy read with Becca because she loves sports and friendship and Andreil is pure.

flower-bouquet-1.png

2 stars.PNG

The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath // This book was emotionally too much for my sister, and considering we’re both desensitized af, I’m dreadfully fearful. BUT I love Sylvia Plath’s poetry and I want to gain something from this, I want to be a brave little toaster and just do it. + how my sleeve matches the pink , how fluffy.

flower-bouquet-1.png

What do you think of my summer reading list???? Recommend any and all things I should add, I need to give nutrition & care to my TBR. + I’ve barely been reading normal books because I’m severely addicted to Wattpad and I need an intervention (even though Wattpad is amazing and I stand by it, I want to do a post with my favorites c: ). Or link your summer tbr,,, I want all the lists.

every single one of these books is *makes aggressive hugging motion* A+++ quality omg. I’m especially excited to read Black Wings Beating because LGBT rep and well-written sibling relationships are my favorite things ever. 😍

and ahh Cannery Row was such an *experience*!! reading it, I felt such a strong sense of nostalgia and was bombarded with warm fuzzy emotions even though I’d never picked it up before?? John Steinbeck is such a legend though, he makes miracles happen with his writing. :’)

(omg, read And I Darken!!! I would recommend it with all my heart and soul and if you ever decide to pick it up, I hope you fall in love with all the murderous little characters <33

I read The Princess Bride last month and it was like reading the movie. I can’t believe how well the movie stayed to the book. Especially in a world today where the movies are so far off. I also read To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before but I plan on reading the entire trilogy this summer since I have only read the first book before. Great list!!
