A List of My Favorite Books in 2018 thus far!!! (Mid Year Freak Out Tag)

Untitled design-1.jpg

I was tagged by Kelly from Another Book in the Wall and I’m still in shock that it’s mid year???????

I’ve very prone to freaking out, it’s definitely my thing. But I’m trying to remain calm and Vulcan and take this whole “change” thing in stride.

That’s the mature thing to do.

And I want to be a good young person.

surprise wow GIF by Andrea

^^my emotional maturity

But 2018 has so far been my best reading year yet and I HAVE SO MANY GOOD THINGS TO SHARRRREEEEE!!!!!!!!

1 Bouquet

Best Book You’ve Read This Year

The Foxhole Court/ This series is my favorite thing in the entire world. NEIL FREAKING JOSTEN. ANDREW FREAKING MINYARD. OH GOD.

We have 1) found family, 2) a demisexual MC, 3) a violent fictional sport, 4) the mafia, 5) college, 6) friendship, 7) dark angst w literally every character, and 8) the most beautiful gay love story of all time. that good stuhf.

1 Bouquet

Best Sequel You’ve Read in 2018

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire/ I’m reading through this series for the first time and Goblet of Fire was so perfect????

Kings Rising/ SUCH AN AMAZING SERIES. And the books get better as they go. Damianos and Laurent are low-key the fluffiest couple to ever fluff.

1 Bouquet

New Release You Haven’t Read but Want To

Fourteen Summers/ I first seen this on Netgalley, but I wasn’t approved for it and now it’s my mission to read this book against all odds.

There are two boys and the book is about their relationship with each other and one of the twins’ new boyfriend. I think it’s going to be overwhelmingly adorable

Anger is a Gift/ I’m a little bit in love with books about friends taking care of each other and trying to change the world. And Adam Silvera recommended this so of course I have to try. I’m also a little in love with Adam Silvera c:

1 Bouquet

Most Anticipated Release for the Second Half of the Year

Ravensong/ I’m slowly dying until Ravensong releases on July 31. It’s the sequel to “Wolfsong” *my favorite book to exist*

I declared on twitter that I refuse to leave my room until its release because I’m overwhelmed with love for the characters and my coping mechanisms are sh*t AND GUESS WHAT???

TJ Klune, the hero that he is, gallantly saved my life:

tj klune.PNG

Darius the Great is Not Okay/ This book is going to be my first real look into Persian culture, with friendship and a nerdy depressed boy and I just want to read this so much.

1 Bouquet

Biggest Disappointment

Leah on the Offbeat/ I think I’m so disappointed in these books because i loved Simon so much, and my standards were so high. But I should have known going in things would be bleak because I didn’t like Leah in Simon’s book,,, and she remains mean af.

The Upside of Unrequited/ This book was so bad. It just made me feel sad and exhausted.

The MC believes she has to be dating in order to be happy. Whenever this happens in a book the romantic relationship is unbelievable and crappy, because it’s based on insecurity.

1 Bouquet

Biggest Surprise

List of Cages/ This book made me SO HAPPY. It’s about a PLATONIC relationship that the MC finds more important than romance??????? !!!!!!!!!!

It was my birthday and Christmas and getting random flowers all at once.

A big brother protecting and doting on little brother?????? and i’m just a poor smol girl this is too much.

1 Bouquet

Favorite New to You or Debut Author

wicker king.PNG

The Wicker King/ It’s a tragedy that this book is not more popular. This is about two boys who love each other more than all things.

When Jack starts having hallucinations, it’s up to August to help him.

And the book itself is a so artistic, with the pages going black as the book progresses and Jack slips further into madness. + throughout the book there are pages of playlists for each character???? It makes my dayyy c:

1 Bouquet

Newest Fictional Crush

Simon and Baz in Carry On/ I think Simon and Baz are very pretty and dramatic and I love them.

And he’s so flirtatious with everyone and he’s an emotional wreck I just want him. I will rush into battle in his name.

1 Bouquet

Newest Favorite Character

Kaz Brekker in Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo/ I think Kaz is the most terrifying character of all time. HE’S SO RUTHLESS? They all say he doesn’t need a reason to do things, breaking someone’s leg or destroying a business.

But I love him so much and I want to kiss his nose.

1 Bouquet

Book that Made You Cry

Autoboyography/ This book made me weak with feelings because one of the MCs struggles so much with his religion and being gay.

And no one should feel hated for being themselves.

Boys love boys and girls can love girls and it’s beautiful, even miraculous. I just wanted to flip off everyone who made the MC feel ashamed of who he was. I’M STILL CCRRYYING.

Wolfsong/ SO MANY EMOTIONAL TURNS. Just when I thought, okay, it can’t possibly get more devastating, I would promptly get slammed in the chest with feelings. it was HELL. but so beautiful.

3 Bouquet

The Song of Achilles/ Pat and Achilles are the most tragic lovers of all time. Please escort Romeo and Juliet, I need blink through gay tears.

More Happy Than Not/ This book almost destroyed me. Unrequited love is something I really cannot handle at all.

3 Bouquet

How to Repair a Mechanical Heart/ SUCH A CUTE STORY!! Two fanboys who are just want to make each other giggle like five year olds and they are PLAYFUL and they are there for each other?????

I cried with joy

Aristotle and Dante/ I’ve read this book 3 times and it’s an addiction at this point. I always cry when Dante wants to be kissed and Ari says: “Stand up.” It’s a holy second.

1 Bouquet

Book that Made You Happy

Hot Head/ The two MCs in this are so FUNNY AND PURE. They truly love one another and it’s about firefighters! And two best friends who would do anything for each other!

There’s a lot of mature content but the story itself is very sweet.

The Raven Boys/ The Raven Boys set friendship standards so high that it’s hard for other books to keep up.

Please help i’m having a friendship attack. i’m overcome.

3 Bouquet

Leo Loves Aries/ If someone asks “yo, whats a healthy relationship look like because I’m trying to live my best life?” I would gently hand over this book.

It’s like a manual on banter and respecting one another and best friends-lovers as a means to pure golden sunshine.

The Lightning Thief/ I’m currently reading this and it’s so amazing?????? Rick Riordan’s writing style is FUN and the characters and dialogue feel so genuine. PERCY IS MY ANGELIC BEST FRIEND

3 Bouquet

Something Like Summer/ I’m CR this one too and it’s so cute so far!!!!! I’m so excited to get further into this book because it’s a love story spanning 10 years, and they go from enemies to friends to lovers

and complicated! passionate! relationships! are! best!

Vincent and Theo/ i’m so obsessed with mmmyyyy Vincennttttttttttt!!!!!!!!!!!! He’s my actual hero and this while this is nonfiction ( nonfiction is my long-standing enemy) it reads like fiction and it goes over one of my favorite platonic soul mates of all time!!! Vincent and his little brother Theo!!!!!

I still need to buy my own copy for my shelf because this was so good.

1 Bouquet

Favorite Book-Film adaptation

a list of cages

Love, Simon was such a great film!!!!! It was less romantic than the book, because the movie is mostly about Simon’s personal journey.

I loved it and Simon is criminally adorable.

1 Bouquet

Favorite Post You’ve Done this Year

My post on why book friendships are the most amazing part of reading!!!! I’m obsessed with platonic love and best friends are the reason I persist on this planet.

1 Bouquet

Most Beautiful Book I’ve Bought This Year

This didn’t turn out to be what I expected but the cover is still splendid.

1 Bouquet

What Books Do You Need to Read by the End of This Year

The Supervillain and Me/ I actually need to read this very soon because my blog tour stop is in about fifteen days lskfdlskfdskl.

I feel like someone erased my memories of ever having this on my kindle and now I’m suspicious of everyone.

How has your year been?

OMG your literally just reminding me of the the amazing books I need to read because for some reason I am a limp noodle who can’t seem to read anything within a reasonable amount of time! The Wicker King has been on TBR forever same with The gentlemen’s guide to vice and virtue (which looks SO amazing and funny and I need it rn!)

KAZ KAZ KAZ KAZ OMG cannot express how much I LOVE this character with all my heart and I think I might die waiting for Leigh Bardugo to release her next book!!

I’m so relieved not to be alone in disliking Becky Albertalli’s other books. I think part of it for me is that I just loved Simon so so much, and the other books (well, maybe just Upside) were okay, but not as amazing, so I couldn’t even really like them. I agree with you about Leah; I didn’t remember her from Simon but in her book she’s really mean. Leah also just felt like Simon fanfic to me, but that’s another conversation.

I’ve heard so many good things about the Foxhole Court books this year that I might have to give them a try despite the dreadful covers. They sound so wild and also DIVERSE and QUEER YAYYYYYY πŸ™‚

*gives giant high five of friendship*
u are so right, Leah was kind of like glorified fanfic that was hoorrrible

and it’s so sad the covers are like this for foxhole court, I must protest for a redesign!!!!

The covers have grown on me bc I’m so in love w the story but STILll the covers deserve to be gorgeous

β€œThe MC believes she has to be dating in order to be happy. Whenever this happens in a book the romantic relationship is unbelievable and crappy, because it’s based on insecurity.” YES, PREACH GIRL!!! πŸ˜€

Also, I love List of Cages for the platonic relationship too, as well as the friendships in the Raven Boys! And hahaha I totally know how much you love Foxhole and Wolfsong, so fingers crossed I’ll get β€˜em ticked off my TBR soon! (By the way, I think Kaz will bite you if you try to kiss his nose, so that’s maybe not the best idea. Just saying. πŸ˜‰ )

I didn’t like The Upside of Unrequited neither! Don’t know if I am ever going to read the spin-off about Leah, still.

I really need to read The Foxhole Court because I think I am going to enjoy it. Like a lot. Friendship in books is always a way to go! That’s why I loved The Raven Cycle too. My babies ❀

It struck me while reading this that I should really see if there’s any fan fiction writing for a Simon, Ban, Monty, Percy cross-over. I think those characters would have great adventures! Happy you’re having a good reading year! Hope it continues πŸ™‚

Leah is contrary to adorable! I have the impression that she is the type of person that if she doesn’t like something is garbage and you should deal with it. Like if she is the one defining what is good or bad… ugh haha I would have written the story of Abby… XD
Ari and Dante ❀ they are love ❀ and I have given that book to my BF and one of my best friends and they simply loved the book! and I am dying to read the sequel!
