Fame, Fate, and the First Kiss by Kasie West

This will be my first Kasie West!! I’ve heard she’s amazing for adorable, fluffy contemporary love stories.

Synopsis:

  • A girl named Lacey  wants to be a movie star.
  • She finally gets a big break, working with a gorgeous Hollywood actor.
  • But she’s also a high school senior
  • + she has to be tutored by a nerdy good boy named Donavan.
  • So at this point she’s dealing with her first big movie, on-set sabotage, and an off-screen romance. EVERYTHING SOUNDS SO CUTE????

A f/f romance!!!!!! AND LOOK AT THE COVER ART. GAZE UPON IT. They look so pretty and I cannot handle it at all.

The Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy by Mackenzi Lee

I’ve been waiting on this FOR SO LONG. Gentleman’s  Guide to Vice and Virtue is so special to me, it’s one of my favorite books of all time, so when I heard FELICITY was getting her own book???? ACE FELICITY WHO IS BRAVE and PASSIONATE AND STRONG?

Synopsis:

  • Felicity Montague (*my wife*) wants to be a physician.
  • But everywhere she applies to for medical school refuses to see her because she’s a woman.
  • And patriarchal society is sh*t.
  • So when she finds out her idol, Dr. Alexander Platt, is 1) looking for an adventurous medical  research and 2) is marrying her estranged childhood friend, she does what she has to do.
  • and crashes their wedding.
  • BECAUSE MY GIRL WANTS TO BE A DOCTOR, JUST LET HER FOLLOW HER DREAMS.
  • A mysterious, female, POC, Muslim, pirate is willing to pay Felicity’s way to travel to the wedding, but her true motives for helping /may/ include thievery and murder.
  • But this is a story about friendship and feminism and adventure so everything’s fine c:

The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton

When I requested this it was entirely based on the title and Clue aesthetic cover. Which is always a daring thing to do. But the premise seems really good??

Synopsis:

  • Evelyn’s been murdered hundreds of times at her parents’ gala party
  • And each day, Aiden is too late to save her.
  • AND OH GOD!
  • I’M GETTING Laura vibes from this!! ~one of my favorite films~With Gene Tierney!
  • So Aiden has to just keep trying.
  • Because he’ll get it eventually.
  • “Deeply atmospheric and ingeniously plotted, The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle is a highly original debut.”

Josh and Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating by Christina Lauren by Christina Lauren

THE COVER!!! I think I’m officially obsessed with book covers. This seems like such a cute contemporary romance.

Synopsis:

  • Hazel (the best name in the whole world) has lots of pets and loves doing absurd things.
  • ~and I already love her~
  • But apparently she has trouble finding someone to date her???
  • ((raises hand to volunteer))
  • Josh has known Hazel since college, and where he’s mellow, she’s playful and fun c:
  • *slaps Josh’s hand* “go away she’s mine”
  • Now, 10 years later and after being cheated on, Josh thinks Hazel is just the kind of friend he needs.
  • But they are NOT dating.
  • 😉

Mirage (Mirage #1) by Somaiya Duad

I’ve heard so much about this! And after reading The Loneliest Girl in the Universe, I need another space adventure.

Synopsis:

  • In a star ship dominated by a brutal Vathek empire, 18 yo Amani has big dreams
  • She wants to write poetry!
  • And adventure beyond her isolated moon.
  • But then she’s kidnapped and taken to a secret royal palace because she looks identical to the cruel Princess Maram.
  • And she’s basically a public appearance stunt double.
  • But the palace is pretty to look at!
  • And so is the princess’ fiance, Idris
  • ~I’m already scared because this can’t end well~
  • So now she has to play her part in a dangerous, violent world. And hopefully not die in some painful way.

Darius the Great is Not Okay by Adib Khorram

YOU ALL ALREADY KNOW HOW  THRILLED I AM TO READ HIS.

///the title/////

/////the cover art???/////

And my ARC came with black tea!!! Which smells really good.

Synopsis:

  • Darius doesn’t think he’ll ever fit in, whether he’s in America or Iran.
  • He speaks Kingon better than Farsi adn knows more Hobbit social cues than Persian ones.
  • But he’s taking a trip to Iran!!!!!!
  • And he has to deal with clinical depression and a lack of social life.
  • BUT THEN HE MEETS A BEST FRIEND NEXT DOOR.
  • Named Sohrab.
  • And I just can’t wait because
  • ***FRIENDSHIP**
  • and cultural diversity.
  • I’m already in tears.

The Good Demon by Jimmy Cajoleas

The main reason I wanted to read this was because it’s compared to The Exorcist, one of my favorite films.

Synopsis:

  • After a girl’s exorcism, she wants to reunite with her demon.
  • Clare just misses her demon friend!!
  • So the son of a preacher man helps her on the quest.
  • Through their small Southern town (which is inherently creepy in horror books)
  • “As she searches for Her, she must question the fine lines between good and evil, love and hate, and religion and free will. Vivid and sharp, The Good Demon tells the unusual story of friendship amid dark Gothic horror.”

Wow, fascinating books! I don’t have any ARCs, but recently, I read a sci-fi gay romance that stars one of my favorite couples of all time!! It’s That Irresistible Poison by Alessandra Hazard, a romance between Seyn and Ksar (I love these sci-fi names, haha.)

Right now, I’m reading another gay romance where one of the characters is on the autism spectrum, and also has dyslexia, OCD, and a mild intellectual disability. It’s really nice to read about neurodivergent and autistic characters! It’s Jesse’s Smile by Angelique Jurd.

I haven’t yet, but I will check it out! Omg yeah I love Alessandra’s books, especially her Calluvian Royalties series! Ksar and Seyn are such a heart-wrenching couple, omg.

        Neurodiversity for the win!!!

Fanboy in my case, since I’m transmasc. ^_^

I like how one of the leads has a name similar to mine too, lol. I actually made up my name based on Kieran, because I read about a beautiful bisexual faerie prince named Kieran, lol. Going to get a legal name change soon, woot woot!

The Kieran I’m referring to is in The Dark Artifices series by Cassandra Clare; it’s the latest installment in the Shadowhunters universe! In this series, for once, we see good faeries! (Since faeries tended to be evil or morally questionable at best prior to the Dark Artifices.)

Yay, thank you!!! And I can’t wait to change all those gender markers on my ID documents. XD

Oh for Kieran and Ash’s story, I ordered the paperback, since it’s more comfortable for my eyes to read on paper than online, so it will take some time to arrive! My reading speed is going to slow down significantly too when school rolls around again. But I’m looking forward to it! ^_^

Just curious abt Felicity’s book, is she actually ace?? Like, does it say it on the page?? I don’t want to read it if the author is pulling a JKR on us and talking shit on Twitter without actually including it on the page.

I hope you enjoy all these books Malanie it seems like you got a great TBR list to work your way through that’s for sure. 🙂 So far I’ve read all of Kasie West’s contemporary releases but her books have become a bit hit or miss for me. Still I enjoyed Life, Love, and the List so I think I’ll like Fame, Fate, and the First Kiss too. I am so excited for the release of The Ladies Guide, it sounds amazing, and I’ve heard great things about Mirage as well so I’ll be interested in seeing what you think of that one. 🙂
    Happy reading! 🙂 ❤️

Okay, trying not to be jealous of The Ladies Guide arc! 🙂 It feels like every arc I have is due the first two weeks of September so naturally I’m procrastinating!
I read The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle earlier this year. Really interesting and well-executed can’t wait to hear your thoughts on that one.

OOOOOH I HOPE YOU ENJOY KASIE WEST!!!! She has become one of my favorite authors. I loved her book Pivot Point. It’s different from her other books. A girl can see the future and she has to decide between two futures to see which one she wants
