October Wrap-Up || ft. authors are not mythical creatures + 16 books

Malanie Lovs Fiction-1.png

October was a good month, there was so much candy.

And I froze Reese cups and smashed them into my face.

//////so delicious/////////

Also, Alex London who wrote Black Wings Beating commented on my bookstagram,,,not once BUT TWICE????????? I severely overreacted both times.

IT’S JUST,,,THEY ARE REAL, THEY’RE REALLY OUT THERE. (I’ve never met an author & it’s come to the point that I need to meet one desperately). That fact really hit me this month. It was so hard for me to accept. Honestly, it’s like if a magical creature responded to me.

here let me show youuuuuuuuu —->

MY FELLOW HUMANS. THIS OVERWHELMED THE HELL OUTTA ME. OMG. SEND A RESCUE SQUAD.

uncontroversial opinion: authors are the best among us

What I read

1. The Night Circus (3/5 stars) // My Buddy Read with Strawberry Hamilton!! I really liked this, but mainly for the setting. There was only one character I connected with (Tsukiko, my lesbian buttercup), and she wasn’t a protagonist.

But the setting was TREMENDOUS.

2. Black Wings Beating (4/5 stars) // I’ve been waiting for this queer fantasy book since June, featuring siblings and falcons and  A JOURNEY. SKDJFS.

This book was great, but once again the guy main character deserves my undying wrath. He’s a sh*tty human being and needs to be eaten by a falcon.

3. The Girl He Used to Know (3/5 stars) // No one will ever understand how deep my love is for Annika, the loyal and autistic librarian who should dump her self-absorbed boyfriend (the boy does not appreciate her, I vote to kill throw him in the trash)

Untitled design-2.jpg

4. The Bones Beneath My Skin (3/5 stars) // This wasn’t Wolfsong sadlyyyy

5. The Gilded Wolves (3/5 stars) // Looking back, this wasn’t as good as it was while I was reading it??? I think I was swept away in the moment and in the gorgeous imagery. But it’s still a nice book.

6. You Are The Everything (3/5 stars) // *covers eyes* take it away, I was just starting to recover

Untitled design-2.jpg

7. Vengeful by VE Schwab (5/5 stars) // This was a big moment in my life. My expectations were so high, and Vengeful SUCCEEDED. I’m still trembling.

8. Paris With You by Clementine Beauvais (2/5 stars) // *dispenses book in recycle bin*

9. The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein by Kiersten White (4/5 stars) // I really got into this!!! I was sad that Victor was depicted as a jerk, but Elizabeth had a friend who was a girl and there WERE GIRLS BEING SOFT W ONE ANOTHER???!!!!! A+++

Untitled design-2.jpg

10. Girl Made of Stars by Ashley Herring Blake (4/5 stars) // This one was intense, I almost didn’t read it because I felt emotionally unprepared. But then I felt a weird burst of b r a v e r y and just r e a d it.

11. Sadie by Courtney Summers (3/5 stars) // AN AUDIOBOOK!!!??? It turned out well, considering my ability to listen to audiobooks = barely existent.

12. Rock N Soul by Lauren Sattersby (5/5 stars) // I loved this so much. Just a good ol’fashioned gay ghost story ft. bisexual boys and hilarious banter.

Untitled design-2.jpg

13. Death Note by Takeshi Obata (4/5 stars) // I love the idea/system behind this??? So flipping cool. AND THE ART OH GOD.

14. 99 Percent Mine by Sally Thorne (5/5 stars) // Sally Thorne made me like the HGTV aesthetic,,,,how dare she? This is my very identity she’s messing with. I’m not a DIY person, STOP IT SALLY.

15. Foolish Hearts by Emma Mills (2/5 stars,,,,,,,I plan to try again)

16. What If It’s Us by Becky Albertalli and Adam Silvera (2/5 stars) // Not really the best thing in the entire world i’m sorry. I’m disappointed in my gay sons. They’ve lost their Waffle House privileges until the movie comes out and hopefully redeems this story.

You’ve read so many books in October ahhhh that’s amazing. I’m a bit sad to see you rated The Gilded Wolves 3 stars, I heard all of your enthusiasm for this book before, but I get that, sometimes we are just swept away in the words and the moment and then thinking back, well maybe it deserves a bit less praise or something or maybe we made it all up in our head while reading hahaha. Still I am curious and impatient to read that one, it sounds very very cool 😀
I hope you’re having a fantastic november xxxx

Lovely wrap up! That’s so cool how the author commented on your bookstagram! One or two authors have liked my Tweets before and I was on cloud 9. TOTALLY understand the excitement! I still need to read Sadie and the Night Circus at some point. 🙂

it really is amazinggg!!! I think I liked Vicious better, just because it seemed to have more iconic moments?? BUT OMG I NEED SCHWABS OTHER BOOKS ❤ ❤
also I love Becky and (some of) Adam's other books???? I was devastated when this one wasn't the best?? I'm still feeling wrecked about the entire thing slkdfjs

I thought Vengeful was a bit confusing because of all the different times. Vicious only have two major ones, so it wasn’t confusing in that one. I LOVE the Darker Shade of Magic Trilogy.
I’ve read Simon vs The Homo Sapiens, which I adored, but I didn’t enjoy Leah on the Offbeat. I’m planning to read the Upside of Unrequited soon.
I’ve only read They Both Die at The End by Silvera, which was pretty good. I’m eventually going to read the rest of his books as well.

omg I agree with Leah on the Offbeat!!!! Leah was such a bully, I didn’t understand why Becky wrote her that way??? She wasn’t as bad in Simon vs.
I’m not a big fan of Upside of Unrequited, it was kind of boring for me sadllyyyyyy

+++ I still need to read Darker Shade of Magic, so excited for it sldkjflkdsjflksj

I thought Leah on the Offbeat didn’t flow well from Simon, and it didn’t have a concrete plot. I might’ve liked it if it was a stand-alone and not a continuation.
A Darker Shade of Magic is SPECTACULAR!

frozen…reese’s cups? a new take on my favorite candy? Welcome To The Revolution

also i love you more than anyone and it is due to a little thing called We Have The Exact Same Opinion On The Night Circus. i, too, three starred it b/c i really only liked the setting. and i also thought In Paris With You was pretty meh, AND you five starred my most anticipated book of the year (99 Percent Mine)…however, you TWO STARRED foolish hearts and that’s so unforgivable i am forced to take back everything i said previously. you are a stranger to me now.

You got through so may book this month Malanie, I am honest to god in awe! 😀 I’m sorry The Night Circus wasn’t as good as you’d hoped it would be, but the setting and the circus is general is incredible right? Also that sucks about What if It’s Us. I have seen some mixed reviews but I actually really enjoyed it, either way maybe the movie will redeem it, I take it you’ll still be seeing the film when it’s released?
I’m really really glad Vengeful made your favourite book of this month, isn’t V.E. Schwab an incredible author, and I really want to get around to The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina soon. It looks amazing and well I just want to watch it. 😀
Good luck with NaNo this month, how had your writing been going so far? Great post, and happy reading too. 🙂 ❤

AHHH tysmmmm Beth!!!! ❤ oh god, The Night Circus setting gave me actual chills??? I was reading while lying on my couch and was overwhelmed with how powerful the aesthetic was. It made me realize how rare *really* good setting is slkdjfsj
also I still want to give the film a chance for What If It's Us, I kind of maybe hope they'll possible *changetheending*
I'm a v weak person and need constant reassurance in the form of marshmallow endings XD
alsooooo YOU ARE SO SWEET AND KIND!!?? my NaNo has been going surprisingly well, I went into this saying, okay I'll probably miss a day or something and it'll be fine. But so far I'm a little bit ahead?????? *is hopeful*

Yes, when it comes to The Night Circus even when I forget some of the plot points because it’s been ages since I picked the book up I can still remember the setting really clearly.
Possibly, there are always changes in adaptations so that may be one of them.
Being ahead is definitely good. I’m a little behind at the moment but there are reasons and I should be able to catch up (my plan is actually to catch up this weekend and get ahead as well).
        Thanks so much! 😀 ❤

This wrap-up is single-handedly elevating my day several thousand inches into the air, I love it so much?? And I’M SO HAPPY FOR YOU THAT ALEX LONDON NOTICED YOU, isn’t it the most glorious feeling when authors notice you, and leave you some form of love. :’) :’) :’)

(Seeing In Paris with You is still crushing my heart, and so is YATE [though in a much more positive way].)

AHHH, that’s so exciting about the author comments! THAT’S SO COOL AND JUST WOW. I would be melting into a puddle of extremely excited Olivia if that happened to me. *gasps*
Also, I’m super sad to see you weren’t so obsessed with What If It’s Us. I’M WORRIED I’M OVERHYPING IT FOR MYSELF.🙈I still haven’t read it and adjfeiundjcndjf I’m excited to do so but I’ve heard a lot about how it was underwhelming and I’m sad. But I shall read it nonetheless.
ALSO, thank you for mentioning my post, you’re too kind and you will make me cry one of these days!! (I’ve already shed many internal tears over your amazingness.)
