Top 5 Book Recs for Gryffindors // ft. adventurous! daring! brave! books

Top Five Tuesday.png

This month Bionic Book Worm is hosting Harry Potter-themed Top Five Tuesdays!!! Even though I’m not a giant Harry Potter fan.

I stopped at Goblet of Fire and I can’t find the will to go on. Cedric was the final straw.

I mean, I’m so proud to be a Slytherpuff!!!

but I don’t really adore the main characters all that much forgive me pls don’t ban me from the blogosphere it will hurt my feelings and really i just want to be hugged

So here are my recs for Gryffindors! These ADVENTUROUS KIDS are all about courage, daring, honesty, nerve, and chivalry.

(and I made you an aesthetic !!)

1. Truthwitch by Susan Dennard // What self-respecting Gryffindor can resist a fantasy adventure??

+ in this story, 3/4 of the main characters would be sorted into this house. Endlessly passionate, stubborn, and idealistic. we are basically looking at a pile of Gryffindors shaped into a rectangular book.

2. Graceling by Kristin Cashore // For the extremely wholesome! members of this house. Katsa. [exhales speechlessly]. She is just so VERY MUCH going to get sorted with Harry Potter.

She’s both capable of murder (and perhaps idk maybe enjoys it), but also wants to be a hero and make friends? Furthermore, she’s extremely moral and loathes to be manipulated in any way.

*gives her a house scarf*

3. Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff // Kady and Ezra clearly went to and that’s how they got together. It’s the only explanation.

Their personalities are HIGHLY adventurous and brave heroic. Excuse me what did their parents feed them as children? where are their matching scarlet and gold hats?

4. Red, White, & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston // I was so tempted to give this one to the Hufflepuffs???? HOWEVER. This book deftly combines Fluff Bro™️ and Posh Fluff™️ into an ADORABLE SOFT gay relationship. Bro™️ in all its forms belongs to one house and one house alone.

Also the protagonist is a president’s son !!!  His personality is at least 75% Social Justice. He is so focused on his {politically correct morals} that I had no choice but to sort him into the house he secretly dreams to be part of

5. Anger is a Gift by Mark Oshiro // You can tell this book was written by a Gryffindor. Its main themes are being honest, making changes, and being courageous during the the Absolute Worst Times Ever

also, it’s for if you’re trying to be practical and serious about your life, but cannot resist playful things sometimes?

That’s the main character + his friends. JUST LOOK AT HIM, CONSTANTLY BEING BRAVE???? >>>>

Anger Is a Gift

Do you agree with these Gryffindor book recs? ARE YOU A GRYFFINDOR AND ARE YOU PLEASED?

What is the most Gryffindor book you’ve ever read?

I always get Gryffindor in sorting hat quizzes, lol. What a nice selection of books here! Especially the gay romance, haha.

Maybe this is both Ravenclaw and Gryffindor, but what about Silence of the Lambs by Thomas Harris? Hope I won’t be judged for loving this book, but I adore it and plan to read the rest of the series too. Anyhow, the protagonist, Clarice Starling the FBI agent, is so brave, strong, passionate, righteous, and also wicked intelligent. She’s perfect, basically. XD I love her so much.

I had no idea Silence of the Lambs was a book???????? i loved the movie, the relationship between Clarice and Hannibal Lecter was so complex and fascinating. it reminds me of the Marshals series by Mary Calmes!!!!! (((one of my absolute favorite series))))
Miroslav is a marshal,,but a serial killer is obsessed with him, and he has to deal with that all while he’s falling in love with his best friend/partner Ian ❤ i think i've read that series all the way through about 4 times, i have no self control when it comes to Ian and Miro

Yeah Hannibal Lecter has just become my second favorite villain. My first favorite is Flamineo from The White Devil by John Webster (it’s a play by a contemporary of Shakespeare). Flamineo is so evil yet so eloquent. Lol!

Wow Miro has gotten himself into quite an intriguing situation!

Haha self-control is overrated when it comes to books.

Lol I had no idea Let the Right One In was a book either. Btw the movie, even the Swedish one, took away the gay parts from the book. :O I think the film producer was probably afraid of a homophobic audience or something.

    first of all, great. idea.
where do your ideas come from, i need some of that genius blogger juice.
also, most importantly, i finished reading red, white and royal blue this afternoon and HOLY SHIT i’m in shock. whatever i was expecting from that book, i was not expecting to love it and enjoy it SO. MUCH.
like, i love alex? i love how he talks and swears and just storms into the Buckingham palace to call the Prince of England an obtuse fuck. I love Henry and his soft, poetic heart. I love that book.
I really, really need to read Graceling, i’m legit ashamed that i haven’t yet.

HENRY IS SO SOFT AND SWEET, and he’s the perfect other half for Alex??? Because Alex is so full of manic energy and STORMING into palaces, demanding his boyfriend’s presence, oh dear god i love him with my entire heart. You can just TELL how deeply he loves henry??? and they both need constant comfort and i related to that at a deep level. And their email letters!!!! [struggles not to cry]

I MISS THEM,,,i’m reading the Percy Jackson series and it’s great and all but slkjdflsjdf does it include intensely emotional gay love letters, it sure doesn’t

I’m not a Gryffindor myself (100% Hufflepuff all the way!) but these are great picks Malanie. 🙂 ❤️ Illuminae is a favourite of mine; Ezra and Kady would definitely be Gryffindor’s themselves (although I do think Kady is a little bit Slytherin too) and I have Red, White and Royal Blue on my TBR list. I can’t wait to start it, even more so seeing it on your list this week.
Great post, and again great picks. 🙂 ❤️

Well I’m not a Gryffindor myself (100% Hufflepuff all the way!) but these are some brilliant choices Malanie. ❤️ Illuminae is an all-time favourite of mine, and both Kady and Ezra are classic Gryffindor characters (though I do think Kady is a little bit Slytherin too). 😀
That’s the only one I’ve read but I have Red, White and Royal Blue on my TBR list and I can’t wait to start it (even more so seeing it on your list this week) and Graceling was a book I started ages ago but for some reason never finished. Maybe I should try going back to it one day. 😀
Great post, and great picks for this topic too. 🙂 ❤️

oh gosh, Katsa would be SO HAPPY living in the illuminae world, bc everyone is Gryffindor and she would feel right at home

+ i think you would love Truthwitch so much, tbh this book’s protagonist, Iseult,,,,,, should’ve been Wonder Woman c: c: c:

  6. Dezzy @ The Thoughtful Voice says:

love this post, malanie!! (even though i’m not a gryffindor in any way, shape, or form lol…i’m a true ravenpuff (more hufflepuff tbh) through and through 😌) (also omg you’re a slytherpuff THAT’S SO COOL) (i also don’t like harry potter that much tbh…) (okay i’m gonna stop with the parentheses now)

i love that aesthetic and you mentioned some great books here that I’M SO EXCITED TO READ!! 😍 illuminae, red, white & royal blue, and anger is a gift are all high on my tbr, and they sound so good and i’m just incredibly excited to read them (hopefully sometime this year)!! 💖

i agree, i could never be w the Gryffindors at all, i support them and their intense athletic adventurous souls,,,,,,,, but HOW ON EARTH do they find the energy to be heroic 24/7,, i cannot emotionally relate

++ I CAN 100% SEE YOU AS A RAVENPUFF!!!! and i’m so happy that someone else isn’t a giant harry potter fan, i’ve been so alone and sad sdkjf

I’m not a Gryffindor, but I want to read all of these, honestly! I’ve already read Illuminae and I completely agree it would be a Gryffindor favorite. It’s not only a book about very brave characters, but also the stakes are so high, it really makes for a breath-taking ride that I feel a lot of Gryffindors would love. (It was a struggle for my non-brave soul to stand the level of stress, tbh.)
I think I’d also recommend Dear Martin, by Nic Stone. It’s about being brave in a day to day basis, standing up for what you believe in and facing a society that it’s always against you. Justyce, our main character, is for sure a Gryffindor too!
    Great choices, Malanie!

oh god I agree so much, a Gryffindor would adore Illuminae but i was SO STRESSED OUT w the constant problems they went through 24/7

+ I’ve had Dear Martin on my tbr for so long but now i’m making it a priority bc you made it sound so nice??????? ❤

omg no way, im not the biggest harry potter fan either (this is probably bc i started reading the series at 19 when i CLEARLY should have picked it up earlier, but i tried by best) it was a good series, but all my favs died and like ??? not okay

this is so comforting that you agreeeee and are in the same situation,,,,, i started the series at last year and it was far too late for me, bc as an adult i’m v sensitive to character deaths and Child Malanie was fine with them??? i used to be so hardcore. and now I JUST CANNOT HANDLE STRESS, oh god what has happened

+ i was thinking the same thing, Gryffindors are so summery????? they have no business going outdoors during any other season XD

It’s okay if you’re not a huge harry potter fan omg! To each their own ❤️ I’m not a gryffindor myself, but I can agree with some of the books (Truthwitch and Illuminae) as I haven’t read this others! Safi is such a gryffindor!!
