Hufflepuff Book Recs! when only the friendliest books will do

Top Five Tuesday.png

I know that Hufflepuffs are complex people with more on their mind that *just* friendship 24/7.

They’re more than hugs!

And long emotional talks.

But in this post i’m going to pretend Hufflepuffs exist solely for soft friendship and raiding the fridge at midnight for snacks.

1. Radio Silence by Alice Oseman

This is the most Hufflepuff book to ever huffle. It’s a book entirely about friendship between a girl and boy, and how platonic love can be just as strong as romantic.

Aled and Francis are constantly being playful and ridiculous and extremely adorable. Also, I’m pretty sure it takes place in England, pls give me extra points for making this Harry Potter af.

2. This Adventure Ends by Emma Mills

Any Emma Mills book could work, but this one is my favorite. Sloane moves to a new school, with her badass personality intact. But she’s also socially awkward and cannot communicate her feelings.

so when her new friends lose their prized painting, she makes it her life’s purpose to find the painting thus showing them how much she loves them.

i swear Sloane is actually a buttercup, through and through

3. Darius the Great is Not Okay by Adib Khorram

If Darius isn’t a Hufflepuff, then my future name isn’t Malanie Gansey.

This story is about a boy who travels to Iran to visit family, and while he’s there he both learns about the culture AND makes a new friend.

((if you’ll excuse me, I’ll be admiring this lovely cover forever.)))

4. A Study in Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro

This is a Sherlock/Watson retelling, with Watson as the narrator, and he is fundamentally a Hufflepuff. he’s *so invested* in his friendship with Charlotte, it makes me want to smile fondly at him.

For example, he asks his Dad (who is a Holmes family expert about the nurture, care, and feeding of a Holmes because he notices that his best friend does not practice healthy habits.

And his dad sends back a brief (12 page) summary of How to Approach A Holmes.

That’s the level of wholesome we’ve reached.

5. A List of Cages by Robin Roe

If you stumbled into any of these characters while out in public, you’d AUTOMATICALLY say:: “well well well, if it isn’t a Hufflepuff.”

An orphan boy is separated from his foster brother and mother when his abusive Uncle steals him away. However, when Julian enters high school he finds his foster brother

And the story is about them adoring and nurturing one another, because there is no such thing as toxic masculinity for these ////bros/////

What book would you recommend to a Hufflepuff?

Which non-Harry Potter character belongs in this house immediately?

Awww my heart was melting while I was reading this post. ^^ So ridiculous sweet! *Sniff* Love it!

I think Peeta Mellark from the Hunger Games qualifies as a Hufflepuff. He’s such a lovely cherry pie that I want to squeeze his cheeks. XD

How about Soul to Keep by Garrett Leigh? Both heroes are Hufflepuffs, imo. Jamie is a recovering drug addict who struggles with OCD; he also had an abusive stepfather. Maybe partly because he had to go through so much in life, he has an extraordinary amount of empathy and compassion for others. His love interest, Marc, is a war veteran who lost one of his legs in a bombing, so he wears a prosthetic leg. He worked as a military doctor back then, and now works as a surgeon for people with trauma. Marc doesn’t let what happened in the war stop him from doing great work and helping people in need, including Jamie. Marc and Jamie are both Gryffindors too, for braving through all the horrors that life has thrown at them, and still coming out on top in the end.

      thank youuuu, u are too nice to mmmmmme ❀ ❀ ❀ ❀

PEETA IS SO SWEET, honestly he deserves better than Katniss. I feel like she defaulted to him bc her little sister was gone, and she was heartbroken. The Hunger Games didn't need romance, it needed more Katniss and Prim platonic love time :''''''') AND PEETA DESERVES SOMEONE WHO IS OBSESSED WITH HIM ❀

**immediately adds Soul to Keep to tbr*****I love books about dealing with drug addiction!!!!!!! sadly the one one I've ever read that really went into it was "Beneath the Stain" by Amy Lane, about a gay rock star named Mackey (((((Mackey own my very soul ))))))

Also "A Study in Charlotte" whichh is a Sherlock HOlmes retelling, and Charlotte deals with addiction which we never get in YA fiction. oh gosh i love Charlotte so much

Yeah poor Peeta! 😦 I get the feeling that Katniss is pretty detached from her emotions too, so even without meaning it, she may come across as cold, which could feel rejecting and discouraging to a romantic partner. 😦

Yes, there are not enough books that deal with drug addiction and humanize addicts! I have some good friends who were former drug addicts– they are now happy people, living fulfilling lives with great friends and a career they love. People really ought to stop judging drug addicts and start treating them like regular human beings!

As a Hufflepuff this book speaks to me πŸ˜„πŸ’› I actually have Radio Silence on my shelves, so I’m now even more excited to finally pick it up, this sounds perfect for me!! 😍 I’ve also been wanting to read A List of Cages forever now, but I don’t have a copy yet πŸ˜₯ You also convinced me to add Darius the Great is Not Okay to my TBR, I’ve been seeing it mentioned a few times now, but you really sold me on it πŸ’—

I totally agree about A List of Cages; even though the book gets pretty dark at times, the relationships between the characters is so heart-warming. I read it back in December, and I already want to revisit these babies.
Attachments, by Rainbow Rowell, is another super Hufflepuff book in my opinion. Even though some people may not like some aspects of the story, I still love how the book talks about friendships and love before first-sight, because sometimes it can be refreshing to read about relationships that do not start because of how attractive someone looks in the outside, lol.
    Great recommendations, Malanie! 😊

Oh this is the post I’ve been waiting for! πŸ˜€ And it was worth the wait too. ❀
I've only read one of the books on this list though (does that mean I can no longer call myself a Hufflepuff). Darius the Great is Not Okay is a perfect pick for this topic. The friendship between Darius and Sohrab was everything, and I loved Darius's character. The representation in this book was incredible.
I have Alice Oseman's books on my TBR list, as well as Emma Mills'. I guess now I need to get around to them even sooner seeing them on this post.
Great post, and great recs Malanie. πŸ™‚ ❀

slkjdf YAY I AM SO GLAD THAT U LOVED IT!!!! i was nervous about this one bc Hufflepuff is so close to my heart & soul, anything less that 10000% perfect was ******unacceptable*******, and i had to pick the softest friendships???? but Darius HAD to be here, he deserves to be in this house, him and his best friend Sohrab!!! (((i need a sequel, to ensure Darius and Sohrab stay close forever)))

Yep, I love friendships in books and Darius and Sohrab have one of the best.

LKSDJF JAMIE IS SO PRECIOUS TO ME, tbh i want to build an extremely tall, soft castle in his honor, so he can just write stories and be adorable forever and go out on adventures with his best friend Charlotte while I cry bc i love them so much. overallll, my love for Charlotte and Jamie feels like a warm hug. WHEN HE COMFORTS HER!!!!!!!!!! I CANNOT HANDLE IT,,SEND HELP

+i know what u mean, i have never read another book that lets the m/f friendship JUST be a platonic bond, and their friendship stay the most important part of the book?????? i have never felt more comforted in my entire life than while reading Radio Silence and i just need more Alice Oseman c: c:
