8 Summer Book Recommendations!

Top Five Tuesday.png

HELLO THERE, I’ve been missing for a long time, but I’m back!!!!!!!!!!!

I was busy dealing with *stressful* things and watching That ’70s Show, but I’m excited to be a blogger again and see everyone that I missed!!!!!!!!

it’s been such a long hiatus, I barely know how to use WordPress

And best of all, I have with me eight books that would be great to additions to any respectable tbr.

1. Warbreaker (Warbreaker #1) by Brandon Sanderson

I’m currently reading this beautiful, handsome book and it’s spectacular in every way

A princess is sent to marry the god-king of a neighboring country in an effort to avoid war…….but the war is pretty much inevitable because the two countries hate each other’s guts.

And the characters are just so precious!!!! and EARNEST!!!!

My personal favorite is a sword named Nightblood who just wants to be helpful, and will pout until until you allow him to help you.

This is a great summer book because it’s almost 600 pages, perfect for long summery days.

Warbreaker (Warbreaker, #1)

2. The Captive Prince (The Captive Prince #1) by C.S Pacat

One of my favorite trilogies, featuring one of the best cast of characters.

This is great for the summer because Akeilos (a country from the book) reminds me so much of hot summer days and nights, with trees and oceans.

It’s a series you’ll feel no choice but to binge read, so it’s great for vacations/summer break.

///side note I love Prince Damianos with everything I am///

Captive Prince (Captive Prince, #1)

3. The Foxhole Court (All for the Game #1) by Nora Sakavic

MY TRUE FAVORITE. NO DOUBTS. I AM EMOTIONAL OVER NEIL JOSTEN.

It’s so hard for me to talk about this series in a calm way.

Neil Josten just wants to play Exy (a fictional team sport) but his gang leader father + the mafia are out to get him. Along the way he creates a beautiful found-family + falls in love with someone who is commonly believed to be a psychopath.

I love this book more than I love breathing and drinking water.

The Foxhole Court (All for the Game, #1)

4. Radiance (Wraith of Kings #1) by Grace Draven

One of the healthiest romances I’ve ever read in a fantasy book!

Both people in the relationship feel so much respect and affection for one another. This story is also very cool because it mostly takes place at night (the main character is of a nocturnal species).

Summer is great for being outside at night, because the nights are warm and starry, and this book projects that aesthetic.

I’m pretty sure it’s going to be a six book series!!! I’ve only read book 1, but I hope their relationship remains soft and playful forever

Radiance (Wraith Kings, #1)

5. Killing Commendatore by Haruki Murakami

This is a HUGE book. 688 pages. Of a weird slow-burn mystery. And it requires your soul as a down payment.

It follows a divorced, Japanese portrait artist as he tries to find #secondchances after his wife leaves him,,,,,,,,,,and for some reason I was really digging that vibe.

Usually it’s not the kind of story I’d be interested in but one thing led to another, and all of a sudden I wanted to become a portrait artist, live in Tokyo, and study double metaphors.

6. Luna and the Lie by Mariana Zapata

MY FAVORITE MARIANA ZAPATA!!!! At this point I’ve read almost all of her books, and this one captured my heart more than any of the others.

A girl named Luna works as an auto body painter, and her boss is a complete jerk. But her boss owes her a favor, and he agrees to go with her to a funeral for emotional support.

And they realize that friendship is the real deal

7. The Diabolic (The Diabolic #1) by S.J Kincaid

Another one of my favorite series,,,,and book three is being released next year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’ve been desperately checking the author’s updates for so long, and my sad little prayers have finally been answered.

This book is perfect for summer, because it takes place in space! I’ve always associated space with summertime. I was also a terrible science student, i know absolutely nothing *slams hands on table* about space

Nemesis, the main character in this book, is the love of my life. I would do absolutely anything for her. She’s perfect, beautiful, and gorgeous in every way, I swear to the lord and the sun and I pledge my beating heart.

The Diabolic (The Diabolic, #1)

8. The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games #1) by Suzanne Collins

This series changed my tiny middle school life, and summer is a perfect time to reread.

I miss Katniss!!!!! Katniss’ relationship with her little sister means the world to me, I’m already overwhelmed again. (wtf was Suzanne Collins thinking in book three????)

District 12, friends!!!!!!!! who wants to relive Peeta Mellark being consistently mistreated?????

The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1)

I’m extremely happy to be back, I’ve missed being overly excited about books and Neil Josten. (: (:

What’s your favorite book to reread? Mine is sdfljthefoxholecourtdlkfj

What’s the best book you’ve read recently? Without book recs I’d be lost.

Welcome back 😀 ❤ Hope the stressful things are mostly out of the way now?
I've been on a bit of a superhero binge (okay, one and a half books, but I'm a slow reader!). I'm loving Struck: The Lightning Project at the moment. The characters are all diverse and interesting and it has a power M/M couple (literally, because they have superpowers!).
I need to read Captive Prince, it's been on my TBR list forever!

thank you so much Louise!!💜💜💜 i feel so much less stressed now, (even though I need to rewatch Merlin completely feel better lol)

+ Struck sounds so good!!!!!!! I’ve been wanting to read a superhero book for *years* because my childhood obsession was Batman, but for some reason every superhero book I pick up I end up dnf’ing. BUT this rec makes me so happy and brings me hope, because it’s lgbtq+ ((((my absolute favorite)))))))

also I can’t wait for you to try Captive Prince,,,,,,,just thinking about Damen makes me smile and feel emotional 💜

You’re welcome and glad you’re feeling less stressed ❤ 😀 Just don't watch the end of Merlin, that makes me sad!

Struck is good, so far – it's filling the lgbtq+ gap that most superhero TV shows leave. I need to sort out my TBR list so I can get to Captive Prince faster!

MALANIE AHH, I’VE MISSED YOU SO MUCH. I’m so happy to see you back because the blogosphere just wasn’t the same without you fangirling over Raven Cycle with me and without seeing you talk about The Foxhole Court repeatedly (I STILL need to read it eeeek). I’M SO HAPPY TO SEE YOU HERE.💗✨

This recommendations post was everything I didn’t know I needed! You’re the queen of recommendations and this did not disappoint. I haven’t read anything on here except for Hunger Games!! Are you team Peeta?? pls say yes (although I will forgive you if you are Team Gale, and of course Team Katniss is a perfectly acceptable answer as well)

HI I AM SO HAPPY TO BE BACK FROM HIATUS BC I LOVE AND MISSED YOU 💗💗💗💗 our friendship just makes me love Gansey even more, I want to reread, gansey is one of the most special 💕sunshines 💕in the whole world

+ I live with hope in my heart that you’ll love aftg as much as I do, I think you’ll become obsessed with Andriel 💜

also I am forever a loyal part of team Peeta, ever since that picnic scene and he was like “imagine if Haymitch were here lol” and he made Katniss laugh 💕 he just cared about her so!!!!!! much!!!!!! and even *serious brainwashing* couldn’t stop his devotion

I LOVED LUNA AND THE LIE!! Mariana Zapata is so good at writing characters and family and emotional struggles and the Love is always nice lol. Luna and the Lie is my second favorite read from her; I especially love the slow-paced friendship, the boss-employee & friend-to-lovers and the comfort-scenes. Fluffy feels are welcomed (and encouraged lmao) in my house.(#1 goes to the Zapata Book Of My Heart, From Lukov With Love.) ❤ PS: i really really need to read Sanderson soon, ALL HIS BOOK SOUND SO MASSIVE AND BADASS. It's quite frankly a little tiny bit intimidating??

THAT LONG HUG THEY SHARED IN LATL!!!!!!!! I love how almost all of Mariana Zapata’s characters go from (eventual) friends – best friends – unconditional ride or die best friends – lovers 💜 it means so much to me as a person,,,,,,,and 100000X yes to the HURT COMFORT SCENES!!!!!! the affectionate nicknames!!!!

+ I was so freaking intimidated by Mistborn, bc all three books in the main trilogy are pretty much 1000 pages 😭 and at the time I BARELY read fantasy. but it’s so worth it for Kelsier, I love that gorgeous human being with my whole
      heart

Welcome back, Malanie! I love how you mentioned only sci-fi and fantasy for this post, because most people’s summer recommendations are mostly contemporary based! I remember really enjoying Warbreaker, but to be honest I don’t remember much of it all these years later. I hope you enjoy it though!

I think my favorite reread is Fangirl, just from the sheer amount of times I’ve reread it! And my most recent book that I loved was DEFINITELY Red, White, & Royal Blue! But I also just read an early copy of Serpent & Dove, and want to recommend it because I haven’t heard enough people talking about how wonderful it is!

thank you so much Malka!!!!! I didn’t even notice that I mentioned all sci-fi & fantasy, but now I realize it’s all I’ve been reading lately which is WEIRD for me,,,,I’m usually ridiculously obsessed with contemporary 😭 oh gosh, it truly is a new day for this blog lol

And RWRB was SO HIGHLY CUTE 💕💕 I could just go back and reread their emails to one another, and the romantic quotes at the end, I was giant emotional mess

+ thanks so much for the rec!!!!!!! I heard of it once but now that you read + loved it I’m so excited (((that cool af snake cover!!!!!!!))))

and I can’t wait for you to read Warbreaker, I loved Princess Siri with my whole heart, she’s the result of a fluffy ray of sunshine & a Golden Retriever had a child 😭

& I can’t wait for you to read Radiance too!!!!!!! Such a romantic story and they’re just so NICE to each other 💕💕💕

Malanie, it’s so nice to see you again! I’ve been reading on WordPress but I post really irregularly, haha. I believe you recommended the Foxhole Court to me, and I still have it on my Kindle, in my TBR list. Can’t wait! I have a thing for romances where one of the partners is believed to be a psychopath, haha.

Some recs: Rachel Kane’s Dragon Mates series. (These are all gay male mpreg dragon shifter romances). The covers may not look like anything special, but wow, Rachel Kane’s writing style is much better than I expected. The stories are very engaging.

ahhh thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!! I’ve been trying to stay strong and read new things, and NOT reread AFTG, but writing this post has shown that i cannot stay away from Neil, I need to reread 😭 again 😭

and POOR PEETA!!!!!! everyone in the series talks about how peeta is a nice boy, and he deserves better, and then they *immediately* treat him Badly and it broke my heart at such a young age

So I just discovered Brandon Sanderson this summer. I love his books so much I plan on reading one a month until I get through his backlist. I don’t want to read too many of his books in a row because they are LONG and I don’t want to burn out.

I added most of these to my TBR! Thanks for the summer recommendations.

me too!!!I felt so bad when she announced the prequel because I realized I haven’t really thought about the series is a LONG time. tbh I probably blocked out my memories of book 3 because of what happened to my poor wholesome characters who were just trying to live their lives 😭
